the church of jesus christ of the last years

hey family and friends!

this week was a great one for sure! im loving my new area. we are about an hour and a half from the mission offices. that sounds pretty close to the average missionary but its actually the farthest zone from the offices. it feels like im not even in the city anymore. theres dirt roads and houses that look similar to the ones in kino. its a change for sure but i love it!

my comp and i have been really busy with appointments all week and we have been putting baptismal dates and finding new investigators like crazy! its obvious that the missionarys before us worked hard because we have a lot of investigators progressing which is a huge blessing in general and for me personally because this is actually the first time since my training thats happened to me

this weekend we are planning a baptism for a family named the family escobedo. they have been listening to the missionarys for 6 months now and at first they wanted nothing to do with the missionarys but they were persistant and i was lucky enough to arrive here just in time for them to be open enough to accept a baptismal date for this weekend. #blessings

we are also working with an 11 year old whos mom just got baptized the week before i came. he was never interested in the church but for some reason he really likes white guys and he says i fall him good so hes gonna get baptized in 3 weeks. his mom is really happy.

the bishop invited us to eat and served us chicken feet. i hate chicken feet. especially when they dont remove the claws.

the bishop also called on me to speak on sunday without warning. not even before the meeting... "we will now be hearing from elder oveson from utah whos new in the ward" thanks for the heads up!!!

on saturday we took the family escobedo to the visitors center and they all had a great time and felt the spirit really strong! as a bonus i saw one of my best friends brad koford who is serving in the mexico city east mission. it was great to see him! to better express my feelings... Alma 17:2

yesterday we were contacting this guy and a super drunk guy comes up to us and is like "JOSEPH SMITH IS THE TRUTH!!!! IM A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF THE LAST YEARS!!!" it wasnt the best impression on the church for the guy we were contacting but luckily we still made an appointment. he must be chosen.

we contacted this other guy who had a tear drop tat under his eye always freaks me out a little bit. but once i had a little confidence with him and saw drugs in his hand i asked him if he would like us to help him stop doing drugs. he said yes and i told him to throw it out. so he did. good guy. probably had more in his pocket tbh.

sometimes in my emails i sound trunky and it probably sounds like i just want to go home. but to be honest every time i seriously think about going home i get sad. i love the mission! and actually had a dream the other night that i was home and hanging out with friends. it felt super real. in my dream i met a new person and accidentaly introduced myself as elder oveson... in my dream it was super awkward. hopefully i dont make that mistake in real life. hahaha moral of the story is i have mixed feelings about the mission coming to an end. im kind of nervouse to be honest hahaha...

to be continued

love, elder oveson
